Assignment 6 Introduction There are several research approaches available for researchers to choose. Therefore, it is essential that researchers choose the best research approach for their problem statement and purpose. The purpose of this paper is to develop three hypothetical research approaches, compare, and contrast the three research approaches. The three approaches chosen are the case study approach, survey research approach, and the ex post facto approach. Qualitative Research Approach: Case Study Qualitative research has several different approaches that have two things in common (Leedy Ormrod, 2013). The first thing in common is qualitative research focus on phenomena that occur in natural settings (Leedy Ormrod, 2013, p. 139). In addition, the second thing in common is qualitative research involves capturing and studying the complexity of the phenomena (Leedy Ormrod, 2013, p. 139). The first hypothetical research approach for the problem statement and purpose is a case study. The case study is also called the idiographic research approach, which is when a particular program, individual, or event is studied in depth for a defined period of time (Leedy Ormrod, 2013, p. 141). The case study approach would be applied to the purpose by collecting data on the prevalence of elder abuse and neglect in selected Ohio nursing homes and any previous outcomes for the nursing homes when elder abuse or neglect cases were found.
